    Other Sites Going Down

As of right now, MD's oil site is down with a too many connections error. And Eyes and S_D's site has been down since last night because of too many connections.

What this is starting to look like is a DOS attack. Especially since MD's site does not use the bug laden SMF system.

That being said, I am monitoring incoming traffic to my sites and will let everyone know on Facebook and through word of mouth should I feel we are being targeted.

I almost put this in the Tin section but this is coincidental enough to warrant a notice to everyone. If we find that this is the case we can deny access right at the router level to offending IP ranges. We should be fine.

If it is pure (though weird) coincidence then nothing will come of it here anyway.

    Just an FYI.

It certainly is weird that both those sites are down. Mega's site is giving the error message

    General Error
    SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

    Too many connections [1040]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

When I looked earlier there were only about 8 people on the forum. No way is that too many connections I would think. This is starting to seriously look like someone is trying to take down "doomer" sites.

Too many connections can happen even without users. In fact, the connections are often flooded from the app itself... like SMF.

It's too late. We are already aware. Next week it goes down. Shitszki. I sure wish it didn't become MORE likely with each passing day instead of less likely.

I thought it was rather off/odd that Llamedos was already!?! down with SMurF messages last night when I was looking around. I didn't think they could have enough members yet for this to happen.

And yeah, just checked out MDs site.

So, is this the beginning of the shutting down of the 'net? Because I've also noticed my internet being awfully slow at times. (Can't always tell if it's the net or my puter - it's an oldie and I can't say it's a goodie! lol)

    Weird stuff.

I know he thinks that what it is.
There is another running theory. We need to get into our firewall logs to be sure.

I think the banner is coincidental because the error there is very specific.

You know, I tried to log onto the OilAge at work yesterday and got the "Site Banned" page we get if we try to visit places like FB or YouTube. However, its reason? - "Site Content Rating is Pornographic or R-Rated."
I was irritated it was blocked but amused that my office's site-blocking software saw it as porn. Must be extreme doomer porn over there...

I wasn't getting those messages on my computer...just wasn't able to pull up the forum. When I first logged on this morning the site was running real slow, and I assumed it was the live banner Gnomore had installed last night before going to bed.

There is no way the server has too many connections. The dedicated server Gnomore has could handle 10 latocs. Given what's going on at the other sites and a few times here, it's my solid belief that this is a organized attack. Lady-t also informed me that hotmail is buggy this morning.

Gnomore is sleeping as far as I know at the moment, but rest assured that he'll be doing everything possible to find out how this happened...as Alex is doing by checking the firewall log.

    Be on guard....something's afoot.

The webbot was down again for several days last week. One of the admins thought he had done it while he was tweaking things, but it turned out to be some kind of glitch in the new version of vbulletin software. just seems AWFULLY coincidental.

Agreed. I just tried to call you MD to give you my theories.

This is not coincidental. Jocks redirects to a spammer site. Gnomore suggested someones going into the domain - he explained further - but I'm not a tech guy or nearly as advanced as he is.

This sort of thing reminds me of the cyberattack that went on when Georgia was invaded a few years ago. That one came out of eastern europe I believe.

So, this brings the focus back to what happened with Latoc. They figured they'd get rid of Latoc and be done with us - and what did we do? Spawned five MORE. LOL - must be driving them nuts.

i took my son to see AVATAR the last airbender in the movie theatre. there is a line in there " you cant kill the avatar, he'll just reincarnate" kinda makes me feel like that, or a bad movie where you blow the monster up only to find out you now have 27 of them to deal with instead of just the one.
