    I added a simple Mp3 Player

I just added the code for a simple inline Mp3 player.

if you have an MP3 address (has to be hosted somewhere) all you need do is wrap it in a new BB tag called MP3

I have a music file here:
    http://208.125.219.124/ajm/haggis/15...ken%20Line.mp3

To make it work as a player here I just wrap it in the MP3 tag.

    that looks like this.
    (mp3)http://208.125.219.124/ajm/haggis/15%20Broken%20Line.mp3(/mp3)

the () are really [] though. I just wanted you to see how it works.

Here is the simple line to make Mp3s play in the thread.
    [mp3]http://208.125.219.124/ajm/haggis/15%20Broken%20Line.mp3[/mp3]

Dont worry, the player doesnt auto-play so you should download any info (for slow connections) until you hit play.

    :-)

    Enjoy.

PS. since some have asked about the ability to embed the mp3 but not show the link... the tag {mp3hide} will do just that :-)
The default will show the link but the new mp3hide tag gives you an option.

Could be useful for online interviews where you know the Mp3 address.

I'm SO glad you said that red. Makes me not feel quite so alone. I mean - those other people acted like they knew what he was talking about.

    haha..
there are plenty of mp3s online (most are music but some are interviews.

usually you just have a url that leads to them.

    Like this
    http://208.125.219.124/asi/tesla/01%...ver%20More.mp3

If you were to click that link you could download the Mp3

But to get them to simply play in the post is quite the hassle.

I installed and wrote a tag that does this all for you.

just place the address between the {mp3}http://208.125.219.124/asi/tesla/01%20Forever%20More.mp3{/mp3} tag and the flash player will just work for you.

    replace the {} with []
    [mp3]http://208.125.219.124/asi/tesla/01%20Forever%20More.mp3[/mp3]

does this make more sense red?

For example, you might have a blog where you're uploading a weekly or monthly "audio blog". Like a mini podcast.
Drop that url inbetween that simple tag and it plays in the forum.

You can use a program like CDEX to make an MP3 out of a WAV audio file:

    http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

A WAV file is a CD-quality audio file. Most of the various "dings" and bell sounds on your computer are little WAV files...but when they are the length of a song they are pretty large...around 10 megabytes per minutes worth of audio. The MP3 makes it smaller, but like when you are digitally resizing a photo to be smaller you are tossing out a bunch of data...so depending on the sample rate of the MP3 (128 to 192 is the standard these days...192 sounds a lot better), you get a larger or smaller MP3 file in terms of megabytes. A 192kbps MP3 is about 1/10 the size of the source WAV file.

As far as the program, you can experiment by "ripping" some WAV files off of a CD, and then use the button on the right side of the program to convert it to an MP3.

And you can host it on a website just as you would host a photo or a video.

I have a dozen or so for Queensland alone. All are live feeds. I can add more later (perhaps their own thread). Very interesting to listen in. You can actually listen to more than one at a time (but they will cross each other sometimes).

I have this open in another window (so i can surf the forums still in another window. Both AU bands are streaming and I hear them while I surf. Very interesting. The bandwidth is also low too. I am monitoring that and it could be done on even slower connections.

    Nice.

Testing a new player for the forum. With the waveform on the player it makes it easier to see which one the audio is coming from if you have multiples playing.
I might buy the license if it works well.

Police/fire/ems scanner for my County. This is a live feed.
