I negotiated the right to keep the subdomain on until 11am EST.
I don't THINK so! "If this were an actual emergency", there would have been no negotiating. Nor would there have been any rights, for that matter.

This was NOT funny. I almost had a heart attack. I am not as young as some of you, and you need to be gentle with me. :-)

That's the only April Fools Joke I fell for. Excellent work brother Alex. I shit my pants.

I had only just woken up too. Better than a morning coffee!!

Ok, I'll admit you got me for a minute, too!

The flaw was that you had all three agencies. Next year, I suggest that you do something doomier, like a bunch of news stories, in every sub-forum announcing doom of various sorts. In financial, it could be all banks being closed for a week or the stock markets crashing everywhere or something. In disaster it could be the continent splitting apart and Atlantis re-emerging. Perhaps that would be breaking news

Or perhaps that they had shut all the nuclear facilities everywhere and closed all gasoline stations. Naw! No one would believe that unless it were on some pollyana website.

How about the EPA occupying the White House and taking over the presidency? (Some "sleeper" green-washing environmentalist being the head of it. Big business thought this was someone loyal when they put him/her in charge, little did they know it was a radical group that groomed him/her . . .).

Ok, till next year. . .

This was the first "news" item I saw today, so I fell for it, briefly. It actually was a good thing, because I haven't believed another word I've read. So maybe one small heart attack prevented a big one. :-)

10 stories that could be April Fools pranks but aren't

    OK Alex, here's the competition!!

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-12932108

It's the day when newspapers compete to come up with the most inventive spoof stories - but not every bizarre report on 1 April is fictitious.

Here's a round-up of some of the day's seemingly hoax reports which are, in fact, entirely true.
    3. A 50-strong gang of chickens that terrorised residents in Southport has been evicted by Lancashire Police. The flock, which had been abandoned by their former owner, prowled the streets in a pack and would begin crowing at 0400 BST each morning.

    More details (Daily Mail)

    4. Men only think about sex once every two hours - not every seven seconds, as is commonly believed, according to a survey of 5,000 adult males. By contrast, the average man spends 177 minutes a day worrying about his job, the study suggests.

Well, then why does the U.S. gov't have such phony looking logos? Never mind, it's the gov't, after all.
