I am sooooooooo grateful to Roccman for having directed me to Sustainable and Silent Country sites. I was surprised, very happy, and, at the same time, puzzled as to how he thought to reach out to me. After LATOC imploded and most everyone disappeared, I felt awful ... and very lost. I had come to rely on it for news of the day, most especially the financial and GOM sub-forums, and also the gardening sub-forum. I was following Megadoom's sojourn to the northeast fairly closely and felt completely cut off from knowing the outcome there. I honestly didn't know where to go, but as the fates would have it, here I am.
This site is a beaut, somewhat more complicated than I'm used to, but the topics are great and the posters ... well, they are LATOC redux: bright, funny, informed. I feel like I’ve come home.

I saw rdenner posting over at peakoil.com. Dunno if he's come to roost there but I'm happy to see his long, thoughtful, intelligent posts about just about anything.
I kind of have SOME suspicions about how things flew off the handle and who might have been involved, but since all evidence has been erased, I'll just be left to suspect.
The situation reminds me of Marooned in Realtime by Vernor Vinge. A time-traveler goes forward in time just a couple decades - thinking to find better medical technology, hell, better entertainment, and so on - and finds an Earth completely devoid of human beings with no obvious sign of what happened. Actually makes for fairly good doomer porn.
If anyone is wondering how the heck to set up your avatar - and it does seem to be quite mysterious at first - it isn't in My Profile, it's in Settings, lower-lefthand side under My Settings > Edit Avatar

Hi. I made it. Kathyprepper here. With so many good places to visit. I'm not getting anything done. I feel like I just moved into a new place. The curtains aren't up and I can't find the tea pot but things will come together soon. For now I just need to get a feel for the place. It does help to have good neighbors.

yep, this isnt a peak oil only site so I think the inclusion would probably be fine. I am certainly not adverse to trying something and seeing how it works.

I agree with you both, it was the variety of topics all in the one place that i always loved. It created a huge variety of views and mind sets interpreting the important news events in the world.

I think the puzzle gets really interesting if you consider that we create our own reality, individually and collectively, and that time isn't linear we just perceive it to be.
It throws open the delightful possibility that dots that aren't there, might be in the future (which is relative) and may even be created by some-one seeing your version of picture.
On that note I think I should say thanks again and go read some financial doom, nothing bring me back to earth faster than seeing "trillions" banded around like it is a comprehensible number. :confused:

I like the two forum format, but I'm glad to see so many of the topics here that I really missed over there. Nice job with both....I really enjoy being able to float in and out depending on my mood.
